Cycling in Almeria...

The terrain of Almeria lends itself perfectly to creating a fantastic arena for both mountain biking and road riding.

The dusty, mountainous countryside makes for some amazing off-road riding for all abilities, steady double tracks, breath taking descents, single track descents and climbs, dry river beds, slick rock and much more.

Unspoilt countryside offering panoramic views of several mountain ranges, trails through olive, almond and orange groves. Or ride the deep cut gorges and ramblas looking like sets for western movies.

There is also an active racing calendar for the more competitive rider, or to test yourself you could enter one of the many 'marchas' (endurance rides), set over a wide variety of different terrain. These can be ridden at your own pace and range from 35km to 80km rides and beyond. The events are cheap to enter and are well organised and attended. At the end of the event there is always a large buffet meal for all the riders (with beer) and a great atmosphere, making them a day out you will always remember, and not just for the aching legs!

On the road, for the rider training for the season ahead, or the general cyclist who loves to ride on quiet roads looking at the scenery, there is again a wide choice on offer. Ride through white villages in the mountains or along the coastal cliff top road looking out over the Med. The Vuelta usually passes through Almeria and there is a stage that can be ridden if you would like to see how tough the race is.
